Strategy Inc. Executive Chairman Michael Saylor dropped the company’s bitcoin holdings tracker onto X on Aug. 30 with a two-word caption: “We’re ₿ack.” The market took the hint. Traders read it as a signal that Strategy may soon disclose its first BTC purchase in roughly two months.
The chart in Saylor’s post lists 840,447 BTC, unchanged from the firm’s Aug. 24 SEC filing. That hoard cost $63.36 billion, averaging $75,385 per coin. Bitcoin traded near $79,000 on Saturday, Bitcoin.com News reported. The climb started around $65,000 on Aug. 19, touched $81,000 on Aug. 27, then eased. CryptoPotato, cited by KuCoin, put the press-time price at $78,500.
Here is why the rally matters to Strategy. With bitcoin back above the $75,385 average cost, the position turned green on paper for the first time since May. CryptoPotato reported the swing took Strategy from $9.5 billion underwater to a $4.7 billion paper profit in under a week. Before that, the firm had sat more than $10 billion in the red for weeks. The ledger had shown four sales totaling 6,916 BTC since the June 22 purchase. The most recent: a 1,690-BTC sale for $108.6 million during the Aug. 3-9 period.
Saylor’s last disclosed purchase landed the week of June 22. Nothing since. The bitcoin.com report notes the firm logged no buys or sales between Aug. 17 and Aug. 23, a second consecutive flat week.
Strategy was not sitting still on the capital side during the pause. The firm sold roughly $2.01 billion in MSTR shares. It grew its restricted USD Reserve to $5.10 billion and set up a separate $1.59 billion USD Cash account. Combined dollar liquidity now stands at $6.69 billion. That cash could finance bitcoin acquisitions, securities repurchases, convertible-note repayments, or reserve increases. Whether the war chest deploys Monday is a question traders do not agree on.
What “We’re ₿ack” actually means is less settled than the market’s reaction suggests. CryptoPotato noted a split. Some readers expect a purchase disclosure to follow Saylor’s tracker post, as has happened before. Others read the line as a nod to the position finally moving into profit. The post is a signal, not a transaction. Strategy’s next SEC filing settles whether holdings changed.
The firm holds roughly 4% of bitcoin’s fixed 21 million supply. CEO Phong Le had indicated purchases could occur by the end of the year without providing details, CryptoPotato reported.
