Mobile Integration Opens US Equities to Global DeFi Users
MetaMask has integrated Ondo Finance directly into its mobile wallet, allowing eligible non-U.S. users to trade tokenized versions of U.S. equities and ETFs starting February 3. The update permits users to swap USDC on the Ethereum mainnet for assets tracking the value of major corporations like NVIDIA (NVDA) and Tesla (TSLA), as well as commodities including gold and silver.
This integration targets the friction of traditional cross-border investing. Instead of navigating brokerage accounts or banking delays, users settle trades instantly on-chain. Consensys confirmed the feature is live immediately for mobile users, with desktop browser extension support scheduled for late February.
Regulatory Posturing and Institutional Context
The rollout aligns with Ondo Finance’s broader institutional push. In a parallel disclosure, Ondo Global Markets submitted a confidential registration statement to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This filing indicates a move toward issuer-level disclosures that meet federal standards, a critical step for legitimatizing tokenized securities among institutional allocators.
Joe Lubin, CEO of Consensys, positioned the move as a direct challenge to traditional market infrastructure:
“Access to US markets still runs through legacy rails. Brokerage accounts, fragmented apps, and rigid trading windows haven’t meaningfully evolved. Bringing Ondo’s tokenized US stocks and ETFs directly into MetaMask shows what a better model looks like.”
Market Reaction
The ONDO token traded flat following the announcement, hovering around $0.29 (+1.5% 24h). The muted price action suggests the market had largely priced in the utility update, or remains cautious regarding the regulatory hurdles of tokenized securities. With a market cap of approximately $1.38 billion, Ondo remains a dominant player in the RWA (Real World Asset) sector, despite the token sitting 86% below its all-time high.
The feature remains geoblocked for users in the United States and other restricted jurisdictions.
