Google will allow advertising on cryptocurrencies once more
Advertising linked to the cryptomarket on Google has been banned since 2018, precisely an effect of the boom that the market came in 2017, leading to an explosion of different offers from ICOs and Exchanges that applied scams. Now Google will allow once more, advertising on cryptocurrencies
With the many recent changes in the crypto market, other sectors of this industry are also changing. This time it was Google that announced changes in its advertising policies for exchanges and cryptocurrency portfolios, something that has been a point of “discussion” between the market and the tech giant.
In a recent Google announcement, the search giant said that starting in early August it will update policies for financial services and products to allow advertising for businesses related to Cryptocurrencies.
Beginning August 3, advertisers offering Cryptocurrency Exchanges and Wallets targeting the United States may advertise those products and services when they meet the following requirements and are certified by Google.
As you might imagine, it’s not that simple to start promoting cryptocurrency services on Google in the United States.
For those who want to start advertising their services through Google Ads, Google certification will be required, and for this, you must have full registration with FinCEN as a Financial Business and registration in at least one state as a money transaction service or be a federal or state banking entity.
In addition, it is also necessary to comply with all relevant legal requirements, including the legal requirements of each place of operation, whether state or federal. And finally, ensure that advertising and landing pages are within Google’s policies.
As a result, certificates previously offered to cryptocurrency exchanges will be revoked as of August 3rd, 2021.
Advertisers had to apply for a new certification of Exchanges and Cryptocurrency Wallets as of July 8th, 2021.
ICOs and review sites will not be allowed yet
Despite the move to facilitate advertising by Exchanges and other cryptocurrency services, any kind of offering of new currencies, whether ICOs or new DeFi protocols, remains banned.
Any type of initial sale offer of coins will not be allowed.
In addition to ICOs and new DeFi currencies, sites that compare cryptocurrency services or add different Exchange reviews and company suggestions will also not be allowed. Also still prohibited:
- Signal groups for investments in cryptocurrencies;
- financial advice websites;
- Affiliate sites or aggregators containing related content or Exchange reviews.
Despite the restrictions, which for many are considered necessary to avoid scams like the ones that happened in 2017, this is an interesting change.
