China Mandates Strict Labels for ‘Human-Like’ AI

The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) released draft regulations requiring mandatory labeling for AI-generated content that mimics human form or voice. The initiative marks a sharp escalation in Beijing’s oversight of synthetic media, demanding that service providers distinguish virtual personas from reality.

The ‘Explicit’ Mandate

The draft measures force developers to implement both visible and invisible identifiers. Any AI output simulating human speech, faces, or realistic scenes must carry a prominent alert. Users cannot legally disable these markers. The CAC specified that metadata must act as an "implicit" log, tracking the content’s origin and generation details.

"Service providers shall clearly label content generated by artificial intelligence… to prevent deception and misuse."

Violations trigger penalties under existing internet security laws. The proposal explicitly targets the proliferation of deepfakes used in financial scams and identity theft.

Verification Vector

While the draft does not name digital assets, the regulatory pivot validates the thesis for decentralized identity protocols. Projects like Worldcoin (WLD) argue that cryptographic "proof of personhood" is the only defense against indistinguishable AI bots. WLD traded flat at $1.52 following the news, as the market digested the long-term compliance friction for AI-crypto bridges operating in Asia.

The CAC is soliciting public feedback until mid-October. Implementation is expected shortly after.
